What is all this about? (updated Oct 24)
  • On Sept 27 Azerbaijan with direct involvement of Turkey using its Jihadist mercenaries from Syria and elsewhere launched a devastating war against the de facto Nagorno Karabakh Republic in an attempt to resolve the lingering Karabakh conflict using extreme and remorseless violence despite the existing peace process while rejecting UN's calls to stop fighting and also rejecting UN's appeal for a global ceasefire due to the pandemic.
  • Independent organisations have raised alarms of genocide (23 Oct), ethnic cleansing and a humanitarian catastrophe for the sieged indigenous Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh.
  • Azerbaijan has intentionally violated international law by severely damaging 130 cities and villages including the capital of Nagorno Karabakh Stepanakert using aerial bombings, drone attacks, precision missiles, smerch, semi-ballistic strikes and artillery means as well as usage of cluster bombs against civilian settlements causing half of the Armenian civilians to be forced to leave and the remaining to live in underground shelters.
  • As of Oct 24 Azerbaijan's concerted destruction against the ethnic Armenian civilians of Nagorno Karabakh has resulted in 40 civilian killed, 120 wounded and 13100 civilian infrastructure destroyed, including homes, apartments, hospitals, schools, civilian vehicles as well as key civilian infrastructure vital to the survival of the civilian population. The destruction includes cultural heritage manifested by the bombing of a 19th century Armenian church.
  • As of Oct 24, Armenian KIA amount to a thousand, making it higher per capita than the KIA of the Vietnam War.
  • Neither the maxim of "there is no military solution to the conflict" always repeated by the US, France, EU, NATO, among others, nor all the calls for an unconditional ceasefire and resumption of negotiations made by the UN, EU, NATO, France, Russia and the US, among others, nor the two humanitarian ceasefires brokered by Russia and France which were summarily violated by Azerbaijan with backing from Turkey, have persuaded the latter to halt the violence.
  • As of Oct 24, after all the devastation, heavy destruction of armour of both sides, and over 6000 killed personnel of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces, Turkish-backed Jihadi mercenaries, and Turkish Armed Forces, as per the military leadership of Armenia, Azerbaijan is in control of some of the southern areas of the surrounding territories to the south and a small portion to the north east - all of them low lands.
What's up with Nagorno Karabakh?
  • Nagorno Karabakh has been an officially bordered self-governed autonomous region since 1923 which de facto became independent from the Soviet Union before Armenia and Azerbaijan gained their independence. Nagorno Karabakh has never been governed by the state of Azerbaijan and has never been under control of an independent Azerbaijan.
  • Nagorno Karabakh has had continuous majority indigenous Armenian presence since long before Azerbaijan became a state in 1918. Karabakh Armenians have their own culture, dialect, heritage and history going back millennia.
  • Nagorno Karabakh does not have the status of an occupied territory and it is not referred to as such by the international community, the UN, OSCE, third party experts, and all reputable international media. Nagorno Karabakh is considered by the international community as a break-away enclave where its Armenian indigenous population has agency with legal backing. Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast as was known during the USSR-era made several petitions to join Armenia, the last one backed by the European Parliament in 1988, culminating in an independence referendum.
  • The final status of Nagorno Karabakh is pending the UN-mandated OSCE settlement as also agreed to by Azerbaijan on the basis of the Helsinki Final Act of 1975 among other norms of international law. The UN-mandated OSCE led by the US, France and Russia, and backed by the UN, EU, NATO and Council of Europe, among others, non-optionally applies the principle of self-determination to Nagorno Karabakh.
  • There are four existing UN Security Council resolutions from 1993 which called for cease of hostilities and mandated the conflict to be settled under the OSCE framework, with the latter determining the final status of Nagorno Karabakh. These resolutions were triggered because of the capture of surrounding territories around Nagorno Karabakh by the Nagorno Karabakh forces during the final months of the Karabakh War in 1993. These resolutions do NOT recognise Nagorno Karabakh as occupied; do NOT demand withdrawals from Nagorno Karabakh; do NOT recognise Armenia as having occupied any territories; do NOT demand any withdrawals by Armenia from any territories - which is why there were no grounds for invoking Chapter VII either.
  • Same as above also applies to the only other existing non-binding 2008 UN General Assembly resolution which was rejected by the OSCE co-chairs (US, France and Russia) for attempting to bypass the UN-mandated OSCE framework to determine the final status of Nagorno Karabakh. The vast majority of UN member states abstained from voting in favour of this Azerbaijani-drafted unilateral resolution, and the vast majority of states which voted in favour were members of OIC and GUAM.
  • The ceasefire agreement of 1994 had three signatories: Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno Karabakh.
  • This is an authoritative map of Nagorno Karabakh with the surrounding territories with original place names courtesy of Thomas de Waal.
  • The Crisis Group's Karabakh Conflict Visual Explainer has a detailed timeline of the conflict.
  • The constitution of the de facto republic states that Nagorno Karabakh Republic and Artsakh Republic are synonymous, while not laying claim on the surrounding territories.
Is there a peace plan?
Is there a neutral narrative of the conflict?
  • UK-based Conciliation Resources helped Armenian and Azerbaijani journalists to jointly produce a neutral documentary where everything you see and hear is agreed by both parties, watch it online here. Tom de Waal's Black Garden book is considered to be a comprehensive and balanced work on the conflict.
I do not live in Armenia, how can I help?
Disclaimer: Borders are fluid in 5th generation wars. Fog of war exists. Official news is not independent news. Some sources of information are of unknown origin, such as Telegram channels often used to report events by users. There are independent journalists from reputable international media in Nagorno Karabakh.

2020.10.30 02:34 im-madanon Perved on

I don’t have a type, I’ve dated men and women. But everyone I ever dated has sexualized me in a way I can’t help but feel is weird in the least, especially my current boyfriend. I’m super short and petite.
I’ve gotten comments like “you’re so small and sexy” and “you’re so tiny I could eat you”. It’s weird especially that these comments have been said to me during intimacy, it makes me feel like a kid (which I would rather not feel when I’m having sex). I also have gotten guys trying to make me call them daddy right after making me feel that way, example my boyfriend the other night said: “do sexual act for daddy you little girl“. I didn’t wanna ruin the mood so I just brushed it off and did what he told me to do but it makes me feel really weird it’s almost humiliating honestly.
But I feel like if I reject people that treat me like that I would end up alone because everyone that’s attracted to me says these type of things.
Do i just continue brushing it off? He says and does stuff like this all the time. Although he’s not that much older (he’s 26 I’m 18) he calls me like sweetie or princess or things generally said by older men lol.
Question: he loves me, do I brush it off and deal with it or what do I do?

2020.10.29 06:07 Kali_Ma_TX SIGN & SHARE this Petition to Gov. Greg Abbott, Demand He BAN Unlawful Militia Activity in Texas!

Join with other Texans by signing a petition to DEMAND that Gov. Greg Abbott issue an executive order calling for the immediate disbandment of the unlawful militias terrorizing our state & require local Law Agencies enforce said order with state laws already on the books!
It is no secret that far right extremists are gearing up for a race war in the U.S., especially in Texas. In the last few months, we’ve seen armed white militias engaging in "shows of force" against peaceful protests led by predominately black and brown residents in small communities throughout North Texas. Referring to local organizers peacefully exercising their first amendment rights as out of town members of BLM or Antifa, these unlawfully organized militias use the same intimidation tactics that terrorist groups like the KKK have employed for more than a century. What is even more disturbing is that local enforcement have continued to not only allow this activity but at times, have even been caught supporting and encouraging it. Even in the case of assaults, police have frequiently failed to protect unarmed residents who stand up to these armed militiamen.
While the activities of these groups are themselves reprehensible, their very existence as formally organized militias (with their own websites, codes of conduct, and organizational oaths) who are neither recognized or authorized by the state, also makes them illegal. Thats right. Texas Government Code section 437.208%20The%20governor%20may%20activate,section%20to%20the%20adjutant%20general.) states clearly that excluding the regularly organized armed forces of the United States of America or a militia formed by the state, it is illegal for any “body of persons” to assemble as a militia or "parade in public with firearms” so as to give the impression of one. In fact, in 1982, the Southern Poverty Law Center took the Texas Knights of the Ku Klux Klan to federal court for their use of unauthorized paramilitary intimidation tactics against Vietnamese fishermen on the Gulf Coast, and the SPLC won under the pretense of this law. Yet, we continue to see these very same types of militia activities and intimidation campaigns deemed unlawful by the state and federal courts allowed to continue in Texas as local law enforcement agencies refuse to enforce the law against white men, citing they are merely "expressing their 2nd Amendment rights." But this arguement doesn't hold up either. In 1886, asthe Supreme Court ruled that while the Second Amendment calls for a “well-regulated Militia... military operations and military drill are subjects under the control of the government... They cannot be claimed as a right independent of law.” The decision has been upheld on more than one occasion thereafter. Futhermore, Texas Penal Code 22.05 outlaws brandishing weapons in a manner that knowingly puts other members of the public at risk for deadly harm. So when we see white men carrying long arm weapons in ready positions, often with safetys off, and pointing them in the direction of peaceful protestors, most frequently persons of color, this is a blatent violation of Texas brandishing laws. Yet, authorities refuse to enforce the law against white men conducting this unlawful behavior.
To be clear, there is a growing movement of radicalized far right extremists in this country who are preparing and training for urban warfare against the United State millitary, many of whom are themselves active and retired members of law enforcement and the military, and North Texas is a hub for this activity. In the DFW area alone there are more than 40 different militia cells actively training, recruiting, and organizing in preparation for the weeks following the election. - 10/23/2020 Kaufman, TX: Police Chief Dana Whitaker allowed illegal militia to intimidate crowd, prevented local POC from attending public history lesson! - Assorted October dates Gainesville, TX: Police allow white militias to terrorize protestors without concern but when one black man shows up with a gun, police stalk him across the lawn. - 10/06/2020 Militia threats in Tyler, TX - 8/23/2020 Gainesville, TX: Armed Militias mobilize in the hundreds to surround six dozen local protestors calling for removal of a white supremacist monument
SIGN THIS PETITION NOW and DEMAND that Texas Governor Greg Abbot, along with every member of the Texas Legislature CONDEMN the activities of these unlawful militias and vigilante "patriots" by ordering local law enforcement agencies to enforce TX Penal Code 22.05 & TX Gov. Code 437.208 against them.

2020.10.29 05:15 toyota_wolfpack My court sentence, my addiction, my fiance

Hello, I understand this might be a little bit of a whirlwind advice thread, but I'd like to shoot my shot while I can.
Recently (3-4 months ago), I was charged with DUI with injury. I stupidily drank and drove toward my sisters, in the end rear ending someone and causing a minor injury. Completely my fault, and something that haunts me to this day. Haven't been able to get more than 3-4 hours of sleep a night. I feel really terrible.
Obviously, I am addicted to alcohol.
My fiance and I have been together for 5 years and plan on getting married this upcoming September. However, recently I've turn back to the bottle and begun drinking as the anxiety surrounding my court date (and possible incarceration-- and my inevitable rape, possible murder-- I am a petite male) has begun to cripple me. On top of that, I pay for the entirety of our rent and utilities / food, while she is looking for work in this pandemic.
In the last year or two of our relationship, I can count on one hand the number of times we have kissed or held hands, and even fewer fingers are needed for the times we've had sex or anything along those lines.
Just wondering if I should bite the bullet and give her up to drink myself to death before the sentencing or if there is another option. Please no 'RED FLAG!!!!11' or 'just dump her' comments. I'd like something with an explanation.
Thank you very much in advance.

2020.10.29 02:49 Bush-Whacked The Right to Full Mental Privacy

Hoping that “The Right to Full Mental Privacy” becomes one of our new Human Rights. Mental Privacy’s existence is the reason that the word “privacy” exists at all. Without the existence of mental privacy, the word “privacy” doesn’t apply to anything. A right to full mental privacy would protect individuals against the unconsented intrusion by third parties into their brain data as well as against the unauthorized collection of those data. The right to full mental privacy being protected by law would be protection against some invasive technology, if said right exists. The right to full mental privacy would also enable one’s freely thought thoughts (such as one’s original thought up questions and said one’s original thought up answers) to not be studied without said one’s consent, if said right exists. All thoughts are mental but how they are shared, such as through speech or writing, doesn’t have to be mental. It is evident that all thoughts are mental because intrusive thoughts are among the symptoms of the mental health condition known as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). What are intrusive thoughts: Healthline explains it as “thoughts that seem to become stuck in the mind”.
This link makes a great case for the right to mental privacy: https://lsspjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40504-017-0050-1 . If that link is no good try this one: https://lsspjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40504-017-0050-1 .

Here are some examples of potentially invasive technology : https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/zarastone/2017/07/10/darpa-announces-investment-in-a-brain-implant-startup-that-wants-to-be-a-modem-for-the-mind/amp/ . fmri scans: https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/01/mind-reading-algorithm-can-decode-pictures-your-head . Brain data can be potentially recorded without an individual’s awareness, and therefore in absence of a real ability of said individual to consent to the collection and use of that information (For example : The individual seems comatose due to a car accident and informed consent (needed to record said individual’s brain responses to stimuli) was obtained from a proxy decision maker such as a close family member or spouse). For the first time ever Professor Nils Melzer, UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, will present to the 75th UN General Assembly Session in October 2020 his report on “Cybertorture” which are Forms of Computerized Remote Electronic Torture against Illegally Targeted Individuals worldwide.I hope this includes: Illegal Remote Electronic Surveillance (for if you have a lack of mental privacy (due to something electronic like an implant or something) even though you never gave any consent for such invasive technology to be used on you).
Most people know that their informed consent is required for invasive medical procedures to be done to you legally, so why shouldn’t your informed consent be required for brain-invasive technology to be used on you legally).Generally speaking, though, when you are in public, it is legal to record someone, video record or audio record, as long as they don't have what is called, “an expectation of privacy,” or rather a reasonable expectation of privacy (Fourth Amendment protection). So since brain data is recorded information, shouldn’t the Fourth Amendment protection “a reasonable expectation of privacy” protect us at all times from having our brain data recorded by others unless there is evidence of our consent being given for the recording of our brain data. Everyone always has “a reasonable expectation of privacy” when it comes to their brain because the brain is where thoughts emerge.
Brain data can be potentially recorded without an individual’s awareness, and therefore in absence of a real ability of said individual to consent to the collection and use of that information (For example : The individual seems comatose due to a car accident and informed consent (needed to record said individual’s brain responses to stimuli) could not be obtained since said individual never signed anything for to have a proxy decision maker to make medical decisions on said someone’s behalf. In the event that you cannot make decisions for yourself, your medical treatment decision maker will be obligated to act in a way that promotes your personal and social wellbeing). Observing brain responses to stimuli is brain data. What I suggest should be done about this is that there should be a question on your health insurance or ID, when you’re trying to acquire them, asking “Do you consent to having your brain data acquired In the event that you don’t have a proxy decision maker and you cannot make decisions for yourself?
The right to privacy refers to the concept that one's personal information is protected from public scrutiny. While not explicitly stated in the U.S. Constitution, some amendments provide some protections. Privacy is a fundamental right, essential to autonomy and the protection of human dignity, serving as the foundation upon which many other human rights are built. Privacy helps us establish boundaries to limit who has access to our bodies, places and things, as well as our communications and our information. Privacy enables us to create boundaries and protect ourselves from unwarranted interference in our lives, allowing us to negotiate who we are and how we want to interact with the world around us. Privacy protects us from arbitrary and unjustified use of power by states, companies and other actors.
THE UNITED NATIONS CONSIDERS THE CURRENT ACTS OF “CYBERTORTURE” OVER CIVILIAN POPULATIONS WORLDWIDE AS “A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY.”
If “the right to full mental privacy” doesn’t include the right to prevent illegitimate access to our brain information, as well as its sharing or publication, then also make “the right to prevent illegitimate access to our brain information, as well as its sharing or publication” one of our new Human Rights. This right is intended to plug a gap in existing legal and technical safeguards that do nothing to prevent someone from having their mind read without consent. The privacy also helps make society fair. If the new Human Rights that are mentioned in this Petition exist, there can be prevention of people (who view one’s brain data) from choosing (by knowing what said one’s goals are) to prevent said one’s good natured success . It can prevent said one’s original creations, such as song lyrics and story ideas, from being stolen and copyrighted first. This proves that the viewing of brain data is also a safety concern because there is the risk of song lyrics and story ideas being stolen and copyrighted first.
If a means to achieve “Hive Mind” is ever created, there are downsides: Hive mind lacks things like the ability to have surprise birthday parties and it causes a permanent inability to avoid toxicity of others due to inability to not know everyone’s mental activity.
Hackers trying to obtain brain data also makes a whole new set of complications and crimes (for example: hackers prevent brain data from reaching its intended destinations and said brain data is being received by other criminal hackers). If brain data can be read, understood, and interpreted in real-time, things like playing the boardgame “Chess” becomes unfair because a Chess opponent may be able to know your every strategy.
Thinking about things that, on their surface are bad, evil, wrong, gross, dumb, etc. is the first step to validly analyzing and putting those things down. It also helps us understand those who cannot put those thoughts down, so that we're more likely to help those people (or help society from those people). And when it does neither of those, it's that evolution that might help our minds (and eventually society) evolve in how they think about something as they realize that it's not a huge deal. Many big ideas that come to span our society would be stamped out prematurely if they were just a second thought by an individual mind, but in privacy those thoughts can mature unhindered until they're ready to come out in a strong enough state that they can survive criticism and maybe lead to change.
Also, the notion of privacy and mental privacy is what enables intimacy. Intimacy is the way that you're able to share aspects of yourself and your life with somebody that you share with few to no other people. If you don't have mental privacy, that substantially changes core aspects of what close romantic and friendly relationships are. Do we want that? ... Or another way to put it... the opposite of that... total mental transparency... would take away our ability to share the right things with the right people at the right times. That might lead to harassment by people who disagree with you but you otherwise would have had no contact with... or it may mean that all the tact that we can use to bring up delicate topics in ways that others might be more receptive toward go away.
By arguing for "full" mental privacy, we’re saying that even partial breaches of that privacy need to be restricted. That means that even if the tech is and remains very limited, it's still within the scope of the problem described and the motivation for the law advocated.

2020.10.29 01:35 MercuriallyApathetic Libation Finale (Of Roundabouts and Revolutions)

We begin the sunset rite, to mark a conclusion and bring forth an ending.

The sprites met no final, apocalyptic battle by which their vital thread was spent to weave legends into the tapestry.

Rubysprite would remain under the Novikovs' service. It, alongside a scant few ghosts who spoke only singular words, one of them only a greeting, would remain in Lara's orbit for the foreseeable future, and she would welcome their companionship and guidance.

Batsprite would disappear, for minutes and hours and days. Inevitably, Alicia would catch on, that he explored the world when he could, to learn more about it. In his own way, he was a curious sort, insofar that a sprite prototyped with the exploits of Earth's greatest detective can have any attributes ascribed to him.

Herosprite set off to travel across the Land, as ronin are wont to do, aimless save the preservation of justice. Word travels back to Lawclaw every other week, about this ghost who walks among them, skilled in sword and gun alike. Altria has zero surprise about any of this.

Empresssprite would inevitably meet up with Misera, and ended up on Derse as she did. Last Batsprite spoke, they both sat on advisory boards, overseeing Derse's reconstruction. And have spiked Derse's seafood imports, supposedly.

Bearsprite lives with the Sykes household still; he has no need for food, or drink, or board. A babysitter, a companion, and an occasional cleaner. How he gets the dishes done is a bit of a mystery best contemplated on not right this second.

Sylvester wakes from his stupor. He fell asleep in the office again, if the half-eaten sandwich and the empty bottle are any indication. The tuna stinks something awful, aromas mixed with that of dried whiskey and spittle mixed together. The very thought makes his stomach churn.

He scarfs down the sandwich and sees to making himself presentable. Port Diluvian is resuming commerce, and his vigilance will be needed, lest more cats attempt to smuggle in subversive plays to mire the mind.

A droning noise that wasn't there before. He leans over to look up, finding violet shells of metal borne aloft by physics explained in classes he never attended. The carapacians had taken a greater interest in trade as of late. There were even talks of immigration quotas being established, to allow the adventurous among them to work and live on that strange little moon.

The cat wasn't a particularly driven feline, except where mystery lay in wait. He had no particular interest in moving; he could count on the patience of saints where his alcoholism was involved, and he knew this. His talents may be going to waste, certainly, but he could hold down a job here.

Then he wonders about what sorts of problems carapacians had, their inequities and divisions, and curiosity dug its talons into him.

Derse was supposed to be doing poorly, wasn't it? The corruption that was endemic to its workings was purged, but something two thousand police officers were stripped of their badges.

"....fuck."

He would leave within the month, his curiosity getting the better of him. A chance encounter with another cat at the scene of a murder, some girl from Port Diluvian who also worked with Alicia for a time, would mark the start of an eventful few years.

Counting sidewalk tiles, alignments of street signs, dates of discarded newspapers, streaks of piss and liquor. Such is the town. Most see these things and leave it alone at that, perhaps even write about it in some book with beige prose that might've been popular if their last name were... something besides Hemingway, the only people who would get this reference would know who the right person is.

In your name we offered four doves, fattened and plucked, and you uncovered the wicked and the decadent and the deceitful whose rot had infected the dream kingdom.

Well, you know one person. You might even ask him when you get home.

In your name we offered an unmilked cow, a year and a day old, and the sour fruits of your search did not lead you astray.

The town's loud. It'll get a bit louder. Rush hour's coming as night prepares its, well, nightly presence. It's a diva like that.

In your name we recited the canticle of preservation at dawn and dusk, and you followed the Daedaelian scion in your quest for the searing light of the Primarch, only to rise anew like the phoenix whose wings burn with a searing light that does not dim.

You're Alicia Martinson, and no one will forget it.

Going home from work so you can catch a pocket fulla Zs before your nightly work. It's hard to tell someone else's story, and unrewarding. Your own story's not much easier as you've come to find, but night's embrace helps the words flow.

You are the Maid of Light, the Hawkshaw, and deceit is only so much wet paper before your radiance. Truth and its descrying is your demense, and nothing will remain hidden against you.

Do people need to hear all the gritty details?

The Upstart Legionary calls the Gilded Legion to attention, on Sapienza's campus. Their numbers are bolstered and bloodied, and more since have flocked to that aureate banner in the wake of the riots. Derse is powerless to enact their will; Prospit's chance has finally come.

"A society is totalitarian when, its structure has become artificial." he says, pacing about the grass. "That is, when its ruling class has lost its function but succeeds in clinging to power, by force or by fraud. This, we have known for all our lives. It has in every respect failed you. Failed us. Failed Prospit."

Silence, as the thousands of students flock around, though plenty of welders, painters, ad assemblers mix with them, the secretive unions behind the wildcat strikes taking a gamble with the Legionary's lot.

"The idea that one carapacian growing fat on his throne from another world can govern, what.Us? We young, bold, proud idealists? What would he know about us? To work our fingers to the bone for our daily bread? To stand by and serve as his cronies and his patsies count their money off of another round of caviar and smoked lamb?"

Agitation from the crowd. The library is still defaced, the institution slow to find the money to fix themselves up after the paramilitary strike. Graffiti and broken windows and what they had hoped weren't bullet casings.

"There is no greater crime than to destroy a nation and suppress a people, who are only trying to preserve that which they were given, to build a happy life from it."

Many is the time he has said these words in this string, in this order. But it stirs the arterial blood hot with a fire not of the stars.

"We stand at the precipice of a new world, with a clean break from the past." He begins to shout, tender vocal cords putting in overtime. "Their hour has come! Their old world of oppression, slavery, and tears will be replaced by the new! A new, bright world of the brotherhood of workers!"

How many quotes has he dropped? How many more will he tear from that scarred skin of the world that one calls history?

He knows the Wanton Quant is moving in the shadows, as she is wont to do. With one hand she moves the Prospitian Royal Army across the Veil, with the other she grabs up investments abandoned by lily-livered Dersite investors. Her peace is a corporate, heartless one, but their aims align in the end.

The roar of the crowd brings him back to that day, the crush of opposing waves as they slaughtered each other in the streets. He trips, mentally, but he cannot falter now. He puts those ghosts aside.

For now, there is a rally to continue. A spark to enflame the light of hope in the next generation.

Saigo Takanaga regards the splotchy horizon with a inquisitorial gaze, willing it to grant him the answers to questions he does not know to ask. It'd been three weeks since Okubo Toshimichi, or Emperor Komei as he went by now, had ascended the throne atop a slew of schemes and stiffs.

Peaches and strawberries came to mind, not borne solely of sunset's colors. Kiyo's son was among those emigrating here in search of fortune; he approached agriculture with a steady, disciplined mind.

"Done for the day?" Kiyo asks.

Takanaga turns around, nodding. "Think so. I'm reconsidering having a parlor at all. If I want guests I'll bring them to the usual haunts."

He had determined to stay here, for the time being. He was learning how to tend a bar, to make and cook noodles, to measure a track gauge. Now he might add building a house to that list. Kido would carry on as he always did, scurrying in the shadows. Satsuma was still technically in the grips of a civil war, bloodless as it may yet be.

A cold clenching in his gut thinks there will be blood. The fallen emperor yet has his loyalists, and the current peace is a frail, flimsy, fragile flake.

But nation-building is not his forte, so. Takanaga walks off to Lawclaw. He and Altria had agreed to grab a bite to eat and apprise each other of the latest developments in each others' lives.

Why the hell do cartographers listen to drunks and mystics? No idea, but anyone incensed by it that live near Sakurajima, more specifically, one of the many who now live in Kagoshima, can wonder that as they live there. The volcanic ash doesn't come this far down. Yes, the fields over yonder are rich and draw in farmers by the hundreds, but why is here falling under that umbrella. Troll lives ten miles out from the Hellespont Sea, no one tells them they live on the coast, do they?

In your name we offered six robins, singular in color and sharp of talon, and while fear and loathing and tribulation gripped you, they too passed.

....there's at least four things wrong with that, but in typical Lawclaw routine, oh well.

In your name we offered two unblemished geese, of evil temperament and bane to small children, and your Hope lit a new path out of the darkness.

Not a day goes by without another hundred moving in through the tower. Rumor is tens of thousands more are on the way. Maybe it's the drunks again. Or the surveyors making shit up again out of boredom. It's not your fault the Incipisphere hasn't evolved to have cell phones yet.

In your name we recited the fifteenth mantra of meditation fifteen times in fifteen days, and you received your provenance come in black glory, sent her to complete the circle.

...what a time.

You are the Knight of Hope, the Cavalier, a hopeless romantic, one who will always want to drink deeply from the well of life, its joys and its sorrows. You accepted who you were, and you are no longer Brisco Hawken, but Altria Vivian.

You open the door to the Red Haunt, expression genuinely calm and jovial.

Upon his seat of power, the Black King rests, empty-eyed skulls littering the steps of his throne. Above him, more skulls are set along pikes that fan out behind his head like an osseous halo, though these skulls still have the skin and the fascia and the muscle. These skulls still have eyes and ears and brains that no longer function, rotting as they are.

The same display is mirrored across each district of the violet moon, across the Veil, and on Prospit. Their crimes are many: wage theft, insider trading, falsified tax returns, undermining regulatory authorities, fraudulent trading, misuse of public funds, insurance fraud, embezzlement, market manipulation, the list goes on.

They had betrayed the King's trust and destroyed any faith the people might have in his governance. Mercy for one's tyrants was cruelty, not clemency, and the Manichet Papers had afforded him a clarity that many spent their entire lives chasing. Crystal enough to see how many thousands had to be put in a cell, or against the wall.

A new affectation, the role of the fell-handed tyrant who wields life and death in the same sword-hand. Fear to force their hands, flush out the decadent, corrupt parasites of the state with the threat of the guillotine. They would either fail and meet their end as another skull to adorn the royal steps, or reach out with olive branches and be thrown in jail.

The damage was nearly intolerable. Derse's bureaucracy was still critical to running the state, bloated and corpulent it had become. The moon would be a madhouse for years to come, with nearly all its experienced leaders rotting, in solitary or in the street.

The King likened it to amputating a gangrenous limb. The rot had to be removed, no matter the cost.

There would be no mercy in his new kingdom. There would be a clean break with the past upon pain of death.

They would sour on him, reverence turned to vitriol as he continued to prune his garden.

And slowly, their thoughts would turn blasphemous, that the Violet Throne must be toppled and new forms of governance found.

He bows his shadowed head as the cardinal finishes stuttering the words and the annulment completes. He snaps his fingers, and the headsman's revolver buries lead in his former wife's cranium. He gives no thoughts to her pleas for forgiveness and renewal.

That was the mistake he made the first time, that he assumed his people would better themselves, without a King to oversee them.

The seeds of rebellion plant themselves in the eyes of his courtiers. The Minister, the Theorist, the Peacekeeper, the Hawkshaw. A pair of cats the Peacekeeper took off the streets, watching with great distress. One of the Reveler's aides that he himself took in. They will go home, furious as a blaze, yet restrained by a pragmatic sensibility that forces them to consider how a world without him will be run, if they put that age-old theory of tyrannicide into practice.

These same, driven minds are sagacious enough to pull it off, too, or learn how to do so. How to move on.

.

Just as planned.

The moths will return to reclaim their homelands, in the end. So the conclave concluded, after discussions possessed of no small bickering. By their reckoning, it will be centuries before they cover the continent as they did before, centuries that are no longer solely their own.
Carapacians from the stars, bringing words of commerce and exchange. They will have another conclave on this, tomorrow, the wise and the passionate among them gathered on the crags. These carapacians are a decadent, strange lot. They may only bring doom, despite their good intentions; it has happened before, and it may yet happen again.

This is what Gimel understands the other moths of Last Light to understand. Personally, he knows Samech wanted to return, to a homeland he never knew, if only to uncover what was lost to the catastrophe. Whatever Samech desires, he'll probably sway the others to his reason.

For now, however, there are more pressing matters. He has an affinity for the Flame that he did not before, but the Flame is not what it once was, and the umbral forces kept at bay with the Flame have disappeared. The nature of the Flame is changing, much like he is, much like mothkind is, much like the world is.

He takes joy in his youth, that he will adapt and bend to the changing game with ease, as the young do.

The day is fading and night will be upon the world soon, as per the custody battle between dawn and dusk.

In your name we offered nothing.

You are as you have always been.

In your name we recited every threnody of the book of the second necrosaint, and you did not become kindling for the consuming pyre upon which the Children of Time and Perdition were burnt.
You are Lara Novikov, magus extraordinare, and as of late, aspiring bassist.

You will learn in time, how to speak circles around anyone else, for music is a language whose morphemes are not so elusive after all.

You are the Seer of Mind, the Magician, and you may be one of the greatest magi humanity has ever produced, perhaps because you are no longer among their ranks. You are an isle unto yourself, immersed deeply in that endless sea of power.

Speaking of which, where the heck is your bass.

For the first time in two decades, Millicent Plunkett and Vincent Novikov reunite. Not ten seconds pass before she mocks him for his newfound youth.

And here they are. Millicent, who is sometimes Marche, and Vincent. The first circle is a line, now, without August, without Avalia, without Alaric. They share a silent moment of reminiscence, then hours that are loud and filled with many a crack, pithy observation, and self-aggrandizing boast all.

The reunion is shockingly mundane despite themselves. Once, they consider demanding a change of music from the venue. Millicent speaks of her child, and Vincent speaks of his. Twice, they almost come to blows over whose child is superior; this argument will never be resolved. They have loved and lost and lamented and listlessly were. Thrice, they share a look that belies the bond they have both fervently denied; Millicent will always scorn Vincent for not being Avalia, Vincent will always compare Millicent to Alaric and Anya, Marche will always consider Vincent as culpable as August for everything that has come to pass, and yet they would always have Sverdlovsk.

She brushes off the last of the cycle as children, he scorns them for being mindless; but they were children too, once. It is easier to condemn their past than to accept it, that their friends are gone, those bonds forged in strife and sorrow listlessly hanging, and the one bond that yet remains has become a painful, festering, oozing reminder of those lost halcyon days.

What was it all for? Certainly not this.

It is unlucky for a child to have to watch their parent reel from a breakdown, their world uncertain and wibbly-wobbly.

Lara Novikov was not a lucky child that night. Not that she ever was.

Greensfield's roads have grown long in the weeks since, as carapacians and consorts alike flock to the Veil by the tens and hundreds and thousands, skeletons of houses and offices and shops like plaque that clings to the arterial wall.

Many are unskilled, and the question of how to handle their growing numbers is a question left for the new patrons of the Veil's Free Territories. A clade of Void players who lost their home. A ghost and her father who gave away their home. Wayward ascendants and their enemies, whose homes have long since gone.

They make no pretensions of power, simply because they do not want it; all the better as these exceptional few bear little skill in administration that merits it. But the heroic streak in them is a ferocious calling that will brook no temperance.

All they ask is that Aaron stop petitioning to rename Greensfield to Blue Prospit Two.

They are not successful.

Silence. Not a sum zero silence. The grass rustles, the bovillion rustle their wings, the clouds roll by overhead. You've never seen a cloud roll like a crashed car down a mountainside, but everyone else seems to get the memo, so.

In your name we offered three peacocks, bright in plumage and many-eyed, and the hierarch and the spymaster failed to ensnare you in their plots, while the demon laid eyes upon you as you slew in a display of your mastery over your aspect.

Silence like the calm before the storm. But not in the air. No, more...

In your name we offered a sow of one year, overfed with grain made into cakes with oil and wine, and you did not become yet another sacrificial skull on the rotting throne of the decadent or the primeval.

Maybe it's just you itching for something exciting to do. But then you have to deal with people and oh my gosh you're a jade why are you out here. You'd think if anything they'd leave you well alone because of your blood, not pester you about it. Damn high-panted highbloods.

In your name we recited the fugue processional because we could, because we must, because the words came to us that you had defied the behaviors of your antecedents and struck out on your own, and we dared not, we could not, we must not refuse your war against the ascendancy.

Your name is Natali Pathor, and you have no need for false names anymore. You live the simple life, where the hoofbeasts and Bovillion play. This may be the life, but it is not your life, no siree. You long once more for the days of action, for the days of adrenaline and adversaries.

You are the Mage of Breath, the Huntress, and you have hunted the greatest of quarries and came out alive. You mastered Breath, tamed the four winds, and may defeat whosoever stands in your way.

Anyway, time to throw on your boots and your bigass hat to go with your bigass horns— hey, about that hat.

"....fucking hell." Tactas swears under his breath.

The Black King had his wife executed in front of the royal court, one of thousands lined up against a wall and shot; purging competent, if corrupt, bureaucrats and officers across the board is only going to deepen Derse's slump, maybe even bottom out.

And Prospit's radicals have only intensified. "They've a taste for blood, the feeding frenzy will be upon us." They're going to destabilize the moon even further in their pursuit of liberty and prosperity.

The Nostalgic Minister puts out his cigar, ash gathering in the little porcelain bowl on the lacquered table, in one of the higher rooms of the Imperial Palace.

"The King is in a... mood." he starts. "He feels decisive, systematic action eyeing the long term is what Derse needs, even at the cost of the short term."

Tactas knows the sentiment; he's willing to sacrifice an entire generation for the sake of the people. More magnanimous than the standard one, at least, being for the people's benefit instead of Her Immortal Constancy's. "You can't slaughter your way to prosperity. Not in the way he wants."

Kido folds his hands. "Might I suggest an economic separation and rebinding?"

The Minister coughs, prompting a "Let me explain." from the consort. He off-handedly waves yes.

"Satsuma's traders to the outside world still use boondollars, but most of the Land uses its own currency. Other Lands are much the same, I understand it. If Prospit were to have its own currency, it and the rest bound to some slow-growing supply like gold, it would give Prospit a chance to restart, independent as it likes."

The Minister goes silent, deep in thought about the myriad issues this would create.

Tactas follows suit, though he speaks next. "Not enough. It needs an independent body to adjudicate, or it's going to be Derse's bankers playing shadowmaster again. An international, independent bank, led by impartial actors."

The migraine returns, beating a tattoo into the Minister's temple. "This is absurd. The number of things that might go wrong. There must be a better way."

The troll shakes his head. "It's not good enough. The Black King's trying to compensate for being absent for the past few decades, and the Prospitian socialists are already blooded." He doesn't mention how this would keep Satsuma free of Derse's grasp in the long run. He suppresses an appreciative whoop at Kido's testicular fortitude, even now, the bold bastard. "He's been micromanaging the executions and the replacements, hasn't he?"

"Yes. You're suggesting this will placate both parties. I think you're underestimating the amount of work this'll take. There can be no mistakes at this juncture; everything needs to work in perfect harmony. And I should mention about half the people I might suggest for this are rotting in a jail cell or in a grave."

Tactas sighs. Pulls out a chair and slouches in it, limbs languidly acquiescing to gravity's call. "Alright. Let's figure out who'll replace them."

The Minister sighs back, pulling out a new cigar.

"Let me make this clear." Tactas says. "People like Altria Vivian damn near killed themselves to give us this chance. We're going to figure this out. I've gotten your measures. There's no way you'll ever sleep easy again if you walk away from this."

A lesson he took from Altria. With these sorts of people, spirits with thick, jaded, battered shells to protect themselves? They want to do the right thing; all they need is a call to action.

Kido folds a letter and ties it to a messenger pigeon. They will need lunch delivered up here. Possibly dinner too. Perhaps even bedrolls.

Martin scrubs at his bathtub with a frenzy. Dirt and grime is anathema to him, after half the Metro was infested by that... thing. The shadows cast by those verminous pests with imposing mandibles and stingers, discolored lights glinting off their glossy, webbed wings. A disgust like soured oatmeal fills his stomach to dwell on such thoughts for long.

A sonorous, crunchy discordance echoes through the earth. The Metro needs to be expanded, for the monkeys coming from... a giant underground city-land in the shape of a man.

But bananas apparently don't grow on trees, so who is he to complain? Besides, Tyler and his mother could use a house to themselves; the community center is not a sanctuary of first choice for anyone.

Sun's going down. Dad doesn't like it when you keep the back lights on to tend to your garden. Says you can do it later. Plants are more durable than that. You can think of some exceptions, but realistically, you're hungry at night anyway, so. Better get back in, wash up, and get ready for grub.

In your name we offered five crows, brilliant in mind and united in polity, and you neither forgot yourself nor had your strength proved insufficient to retain your convictions and deny the way of the world.

The house is empty. Your sister's in the garage, using the space vacated by your dad's car to test out a robot of hers. This one she spliced together from two of those store-brought do it yourself robot kits for the aspiring learner or whatever marketing said works best these days.

In your name we offered a pair of bulls slain in war, of bloodstained horns and gnashing teeth, and you learned to reshape your station, to wear a mantle that you saw fit for you.

As long as she doesn't set the lawn mower on fire, it'll be fine.

In your name we recited the ninety-ninth psalm upon the ten point tree was made, and you remained strong through wrack and ruin that carried to you and everyone else pain as the vanguard's ruination consumes her, and through her the sum of the lost souls of Skaia were infected with a rot that ate away at their decency.

Your name is Aaron Sykes and you are covered in garden dirt. You are the son of Desmond and Caroline Sykes, brother to Emma Sykes, and are sort of an average dude in many respects, despite your nature.

You are the Heir of Void, the Sentinel, with everything you do the definition of what an Heir of Void does, as it is you. You are it. And oblivion in all its emptiness, in all its majesty, is yours.

As is this garden you've set up, with tomatoes, berries, squash, and herbs, which is nice. The herbs aren't wilting from the heat as much, anymore.

Avalia Hawken finishes writing the eighteenth page of her journal. There is still so much more to be said.

She takes up her blade, a sharp, utilitarian extension of herself. Her descendant understood the coupling of royalty and the cut, yet she suspected in a fight, the elder would be victorious. The hand that brings the edge to bear must be pragmatic, not passionate. The expression of royalty is borne of emptiness, and yet...

To be plain, that is no goddamn fucking way to live. And in this respect the younger lives more fruitfully.

The decade of grief is at an end. Her will is her own again, and she will not squander it for a mastery she does not need; imperial cavalreapers her ass, half of these tin can fuckers barely understand which end of the blade to hold.

She closes her journal and sticks the feather where she found it, on the trisected corpse of an imperial skirmisader. She needs to write in such a way that Altria cannot read this before her appointed time.

There are world other than these; Alternia under a different lens, another side of the same spirit. She will write in their script; Altria will find her way to these other worlds one day, then it is but a matter of finding a willing translator.

She also claimed that she would die in the end.

Avalia smirks as she stands up from the tree stump to be on her way, one step through rainbow, grassy soil at a time.

She'll see about that. If she fails, then Altria will be right. But if she succeeds? Then she will journal her greatest gambit before sending it off to find its way into her descendant's hands.

To escape fate's gaol. The very audacity of it sends her into a giggling fit. It is decided.

She must live to see Altria again, show her how easily a Hopeful Child of Skaia might escape their Judgment.

The powder and the sweat makes her skin crawl, as she bikes down the dirt road to that final loop that set the last of her libations on the road to victory.

Her flesh had crawled around her bones. Dread crept down her spine, vertebrae by vertebrae. Shadows fueled by her fears had loomed around every corner.

That it might all fall apart because she had forgotten one player's entry at the end of it all. Instead, this Althea girl had done it, an unknown element in a solved game.

Fuck, she's tired. The centuries in her prison weren't especially active. She hasn't ridden anything this hard in, well. Never mind that.

A jadeite with inconceivably long horns stares her down as she pedals faster. She waves back. No, didn't work, she doesn't trust her.

She reaches the ranch, a rustic little thing that has that inimitable quality of being a home. She gets off her bike and breathes heavily and deeply, lungs screaming in a chorus alongside her legs, knees, rear, and back.

"Hi there!" she says cheerily, voice unable to keep secret the tiredness of a long journey. "Natali Pathor?"

.

"Be seeing you." she tells her. A slip of the tongue, though to be truthful would've given it away.

She gets back on the bike and pedals up, cursing the uphill slope between every two-lungsful of air.

No. Her chest is on fire, if her legs stop moving they may never start, and the seat of the bicycle was not made for the rear end of any troll you've ever met. But she's not fading away.

She continues biking, across the dirt road as storm clouds roll over the horizon, until she's sufficient out of view that she stops the bike, staggers off the road, and collapses under a solitary tree.

Tiny globs of rainwater fall on her face, as she stares into the roiling, gray skies, fingers digging into the cool earth under her, unable to focus enough to do more than appreciate the powdery soil that clumps against the meat of her body and the deluge of water from above.

Time passes as she lays there, until her senses and sensibility return in full.

Soaked through, she stumbles over to the edge of the hill. The ranch house is no longer there; the Mage of Breath has entered the Game.

She looks back, on the country road, now desolate, the shadows deep and the thunder strident. She picks up her bike and continues on her way. She has food enough, for a long while. A tent, if she can find a place untouched by the downpour.

Her sense of Time remains, though her ability to manipulate it, step through it in mimicry of Space, has gone dormant, atrophied from at least seventy sweeps of disuse. She's not sure if she can make her way back to the Medium from here, and she never did before Time ended, did she?

And so she returns back to her own loop: a lonely, regretful troll at the bottom of the hierarchy without much of anything to her name.

August Kelsav rides off, fading into the distance as white lightning splits the sky.

Among the bones and the roses and the offered spirits, the sunset rite concludes and the ending comes forth.

So it goes.

2020.10.29 01:15 MrAznGotGame What to do if counselor won't respond to email to waive registration by registration date?

Basically title. My registration date is tomorrow and I need to get it cleared by my major counselor. In addition, I need to petition to take 2 classes that are overlapping by 30 minutes - both required for my majominor. My counselor sent a post about emailing her to waive advisement if your GPA is above X and you're within Y to Z units but what's the point of that if they won't even respond? I'm honestly not sure if I can even do anything. I was just wondering if anyone here was dealing with or had dealt with something similar. Any responses are appreciated. Fight on...

2020.10.28 20:56 Skylerrae12 Advice

Some days im okay with my height and think Im not even that tall (5’9ish) and other days I find myself beating myself up over it. Depressed, looking at so many cute boots and heels id wear and my style would be amazing if I was just at most 5’7. As how is 5’9 only 2 inches taller but seems like a huge height difference and stigma. That maybe I wouldn’t be single and have a hard time dating if height wasnt an factor.
I am sick of hearing my shorter friends tell me that I should be proud of my height, height isnt a big deal, wear heels anyway and models are my height and look at them and they would love to be taller. But yes sorry Jessica but I’m not a model I’m just an average working American which means famous basketball players and athletes are not an option for me. And yes I bet you would love to be taller but not anything seen as “tall” for a woman.
I thought I was finally accepting of my height as I am almost 26 but I guess not.
I just want to be petite and not worry about a guy being shorter than me or wearing heels and being confident for myself
Does it get better? Or will it always be an insecurity but gets easier to deal with

2020.10.28 20:18 throwaway9012357 Had a threesome on coke with my wife and another girl

Me (35) and my wife (26) had a threesome with a girl we hooked up with last year before COVID.
Helluva cocktail which included about a gram, phenibut, drinks, viagra for me and weed at the end of the night to kill the edge.
So the first time we fucked this girl last December it was really hot and we all said we wanted to do it again but our schedules wouldn’t align and then she started dating some guy.
Fast forward to this past weekend and we ask her out again. She’s single now so she agrees to meet at our fave rooftop dance club (which has reopened with some strict covid restrictions — everyone gets a table, they serve food, you have to sit in your seat the whole time.)
We get there and the vibe is great, all the staff we haven’t seen in a while are there and it feels like a nice little reunion. The view is amazing and the weather is nice.
Eventually our date gets there — she’s looking good. She’s a petite, Jewish girl — incredibly tight body (almost no fat) with a little ass and tits and some tattoos. I think she’s like 26 or something. Smart kinda dorky girl with a wild side and kind of an alt-chick style.
We’re chatting and occasionally the two of them are going to the bathroom to do some lines.
We’re all vibing so we uber back to our place.
We keep hitting more lines (I only had a few cuz I didn’t want to get coke dick) and drinking and eventually end up in bed.
Sex was great. I got to fuck her this time — didn’t last time we hooked up. My wife was on her period so provided oral support.
They made out and my wife ate her pussy and sucked her tits.
The girl was very enthusiastic. Shrieking as my wife used her magic wand on her. Riding my dick as my wife ate her ass.
I ate her ass and fingered her asshole as I fucked her. She sat on my face while my wife blew me.
Lots of other great wild coke sex moments. The impression I got was that her breakup was bad and she was exorcising some of it with dirty sex.
I came all over her back and the three of us laid in bed cuddling for a bit before we sparked a j and then she left.
After that I fucked my wife in the ass and took some videos with my dick in her mouth asking her how it felt to watch me fuck another girl and how her pussy tasted on my dick.
Then we ordered a pizza and shot the shit for a long ass time before we fell asleep.
All in all pretty incredible night.

2020.10.28 19:10 ThrowRA-DrunkenSext I (23M) caught my girlfriend (22F) of two weeks sexting. What do I do?

So I caught my girlfriend of two weeks sexting last Wednesday. It started at a bar in her college town throwing back cocktails. She is a petite woman at about 5'0" and 95 lbs., and after three mixed drinks she was mildly drunk. I mentioned that earlier that day a random girl sent me a thirst trap and she got jealous. We walked over to a convenience store and while I was standing behind her shoulder I saw that she had texted another male asking for a dick pic. I immediately walked out of the store and back to her apartment to get my overnight stuff. I told her roommate about it and then she walked in and asked if I was leaving and I said yeah.
I walked back to my car to sleep, and she kept texting me so I called her about what I saw . She picked up and was completely indifferent about the entire situation and asked what I'd like her to say. I told her if she really cared about me she would've chased after me to my car, but she said she was too drunk and was going to sleep. I conceded and asked if she would talk to me if I walked back there and she said no but I could sleep on her couch.
The next day she called me, but I was trying to initiate no contact so I didn't answer. The voicemail she left contained no empathy or remorse. Here is the transcript: "Hi, I know you probably don't wanna hear from me. Just calling to say I'm sorry. Obviously you didn't deserve this. I know, obviously, you deserve way better. Honestly, I don't really know what else to say. See? This is why I don't like getting drunk because when I get crazy I do stupid things. So yeah. I just wanted to say I'm sorry. Bye." We ended up reconciling that night and she bought me a train ticket to visit her that weekend.
When I got down there, she let me look at her phone. I noticed that she had deleted her conversation with the guy and his contact. I also saw her conversation with her roommate that night which went roughly "Guess who's sexting [name]?" her roommate saying "dude you're with ThrowRA-DrunkenSexter" to which she replied that "[Name] is coming down November 7th to the 27th. He's gonna come visit. We all know it was gonna happen." The last thing that really stuck out to me was her roommate saying "You've been with ThrowRA-DrunkenSexter for 2 weeks" and her replying "Exactly, so?"
I also discovered that while I was on the train down she had invited guys to message her on Hinge. She deleted the app, but I redownloaded it to check. Her reasoning was that she thought I was going to break up with her, even though I told her I was deleting my dating apps a day before and she promised to do the same. Anyways, I talked with her roommate while we were alone and she said that she was into this guy even though he fucks anything that walks and is objectively less attractive than I. I asked her the odds of her sleeping with him when he's back and she said probably 80%. Her roommate promised to let me know if she physically cheats. I also mentioned to her the lack of remorse and empathy and she commented that it's a running joke that they think my girlfriend is a sociopath.
Fast forward to today, and she's getting coffee with a guy that she met on a dating app while we were broken up. She claims that she's tricking him into taking an exam for her in a subject he majored in. She wasn't upfront about it, and I had to keep asking what about the guy you've been talking to. For some reason I told her it was okay as long as she didn't touch him and she shared her location with me. Now I really don't know what to do. We have plans this weekend, but I am really uncomfortable.
Is the lack of trust too much to continue my relationship with her? Should I breakup with her before this weekend? Should I wait and see how things go this month when the other guy is back in town? Any advice is greatly appreciated Reddit. Thanks for reading.

2020.10.28 18:51 No_Holiday705 Would this treatment be considered abusive?

Hey Redditors. A year ago I was in what I believe now was an emotionally abusive relationship, and I just want to hear some input about what this sounds like to you. I, 23 at the time, and him, 24, dated for about one year. We're both from Christian backgrounds and he was a missionary at the time. It's a little long, so if you need to skip to the end, the last bolded statement kinda sums it up.
Problem #1: Sexual Past-Shaming
I had been sexually active prior to meeting him, and he had never had sexual experiences with anyone (aside from some questionable things: once touching a 17 yo girl he was mutually interested in on her chest (above her clothes) when he was 22, spying on his sister and her friend changing clothes, and looking at child pornography when he was a teenager. So. Bear all this in mind I guess.) About a month in, I told him that I'd been "all the way" a few times with a guy, as well as having sexual experiences prior to this.
He told me that he wasn't sleeping well, unable to eat, and in a fog from this information. This fog lasted months. He kept eating after a week or two, but was still depressed. I tried to be understanding and supportive, and agreed that I was wrong (according to our Christian faith) for having "not saved myself," but I hoped that eventually his pain would heal. He then went to his 6 or 7 close guy friends for advice, airing out my personal business to them, which was pretty embarrassing for me. From then on, he'd ask me questions about my encounters, he'd ask for the name of the guy I had sex with, he'd tell me he was getting support and advice about my sexual past from his mentors, and would let me know that he was having a really hard time about it, all the while pushing the physical boundaries I'd been pretty explicit about from the get go. I told him I didn't want to do anything more than make out with a guy until I was married, because I was trying to do better by my own expectations for myself in relationships. He pushed this line and wound up initiating pretty much everything outside of sex. I repeatedly told him over the course of our relationship that I didn't like doing that, to which he'd seem apologetic and agree, and then would do it again. All the while he's still reminding me of how "his future wife didn't wait" and how upset he is by what I'd done. I remember one night about 4 months in, he turned and screamed (screamed, you guys) into his pillow when he asked if me and the other guy had used condoms and I said that no, not always. Again, I was pretty sympathetic and remorseful and tried to be sweet and kind and understanding with him. This remorse I think became an overcorrection, and I wound up feeling more intense shame than I think I ever would have before, even as a Christian. I felt dirty and like a rotten human. His friends and mentors told him that the Christlike choice would be to forgive me and to choose to see me as Christ does. In scripture it says that our sins are "cast as far as the east is from the west," meaning that Jesus simply does not think about them or care about anything we've done once we've told him about it. That was not the same luxury afforded me by this boyfriend. For probably 5 more months, he'd bring up my sexual past once to three times per week, punctuated by moments that he'd just stop talking to me as he hung his shoulders and sulked. I saw it all and it stung every time. I remember being on a road trip with him and things going amazingly, listening to our favorite music as we drove through the mountains, only for him to again remember my past and not speak a word to me for one entire *hour* as we drove. Again, this whole time I'm being sympathetic and trying to be soft with him, but deep down wondering when he'd let me forget about my few sexual encounters. It was a really miserable season for me and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I used to look out the window of my apartment and wonder what it'd be like to jump out. I would never have followed through, but it shocks and scares me that his berating pushed me to that point. I don't recognize that girl anymore.
Problem #2: Body-Shaming
Around month 3, he bought me a gym membership. $20/month; I was very grateful to him for this and saw it as him getting me interested in weightlifting, something I was new to. I've always been slender and fairly in shape, but at this point I was mostly just rock climbing occasionally and not in an active gym habit. I'd been in one in previous years and maintained a fairly slim physique by eating well and staying active, but I wasn't going 5x a week like he was. Still, I was 5'6" and 125 pounds, so doing fine. I have slim legs, slim arms, petite breasts, and a sort of bigger butt, but I think my "problem" area has always just been that little bit of lower belly pudge that would expand when I'd bloat. When you see fitness bloggers share their "before bloating" and "after bloating" photos, mine would often look like the after. Pretty normal stuff. Me being his first girlfriend, I think he kind of forgot (?) or didn't know (?) that it's normal to bloat, so my hunch is that his qualms with my body were primarily based on my belly fat and bloating. Again, though, I'm a solid 7, if I may say so, and have had no trouble in dating really wonderful, also erm, extremely attractive men. Not sure how to communicate this without sending a photo of myself. I deffffinitely have some things I'd like to change that I don't really tell people about, but in general am a pretty person.
The first red flag: I missed about 2.5 weeks of going to the gym with him following a visit home and just kind of fell into a funk in which I couldn't get up the energy or motivation to go. My first mistake! (lmao). He told me "It's fine, I just kind of always imagined my future wife being as into fitness as me." Isn't this veiled body-shaming by way of....fitness shaming? Not sure.
The second: walking past women in the gym on our way to the weights section, with me following behind him, seeing him VERY noticeably turn and check out a woman's butt as we walked past. This only happened once, plus some glances at women on the subway, but man did it hurt. I confronted him about what seemed like a lot of checking out other women, and he said, "Yeaaah I'm talking to *friend* about it. I know.. I need to stop."
The third and final, which is the one I'm most curious about how this sounds to other people:
One evening we were lacing up our shoes to go to the gym, and for whatever reason we decided not to go. I don't remember if I had said I was feeling tired, but whatever it was, I remember it being semi-mutual, so I didn't think there was a problem. His next words are essentially the reason I'm in therapy one full year later.
He said, "I just wish that I could see a different version of your body that those other guys didn't get to see." ie. he wished he could see me as more slim than even the guys before him had "gotten" to see. (mind you I'd been going to the gym now 5x a week at this point, and was getting really strong and more lean, even though I still had some lower belly fat). In one sentence he slut shamed me AND body shamed me. I sat there in shock, and told him through tears that that was a horrible thing to say. No remorse whatsoever, still hasn't apologized for that. It came out (because I read a personal note he'd written to himself; bad, I know) that he hadn't been attracted to me the whole time we'd been dating (fair), and that he just wishes I had a "thinner, more model-like body." Fair. I mean, I'm already borderline bony in some areas, but whatever. The point was what he said to my face, not that. He wound up breaking up with me 2 months later after deliberating for several weeks over whether he liked me enough.
Anyway, I've been processing this for awhile, and every one of my friends and family already felt nervous about him after it came out that he was shaming me about my past. His sister in law actually reached out and told me she and her brother told him they wouldn't go to the wedding of him and his now fiance until he apologized for the hell he dragged me through. (they got together 5 mos after we broke up and are getting married a year and a few months after we broke up). His family was extremely supportive of me that whole relationship, and evidently still is, so that helps.
But yeah, I realize this is long, and I'll be deleting this soon because it's all embarrassing AF, but I'm just wondering if anyone who has the time to read this could chime in. My therapist views it as manipulation and emotional abuse, but I wanted to hear a few other opinions. Kind of gaslighting myself here. If you (bless your heart) have read this far, what's your take on it?

2020.10.28 06:30 TiffanyFlournoy Black Man Wrongfully Convicted & Incarcerated Since 1977 and Evidence Proves It #Louisiana #PleaseSignThePetition ✍🏽✊🏽

By Tiffany Flournoy, Investigative Journalist Activist for Criminal Justice Reform 1977: The Vincent Simmons Project
Since 1977, Vincent Simmons has maintained his innocence. For 43 years he’s been legally trying to prove it.
Now at 68-years-old, despite a series of judicial roadblocks and dead ends, he continues to fight for his freedom from the clinches of imprisonment at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, Angola. New evidence proves he was robbed of a fair trial and prosecutors failed to turn over discovery files to the defense. Other evidence further supports his innocence.
Help press Louisiana officials to set him free from its broken judicial system plagued with injustice and riddled with racism, by joining the movement to free him and then signing the petition using the link at the end of this article.
“From the start I was and am innocent of these charges. I knew one day God would send His messengers and soldiers to aid me when he was ready. God is the Light so we are the light,” Simmons said from prison.
Without evidence of a rape and following a botched two-day trial in Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, Simmons, who is Black, was convicted of the attempted aggravated rape of two white girls (twins). Simmons was Initially accused and charged with aggravated rape. He was convicted by a jury of 11 white men and one Black woman just 51 days after his arrest in Marksville, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana.
New evidence in the case suggests that Simmons did not receive a fair trial. A supplemental memo filed Oct 23, 2020, in the 12th Judicial District states that discovery was never turned over to Simmons’ defense 43 years ago. The memo was filed on the heels of an Oct 20, 2020 motion to vacate Simmons’ conviction and sentence and a post-conviction relief application.
According to the sworn affidavit of Alan Holmes, an Avoyelles Parish community leader, on Oct .20 Avoyelles Parish District Attorney Charles Riddle admitted to Holmes and Simmons’ attorney Justin Bonus, that Simmons’ trial attorney Harold Brouillette never received the discovery file prior to trial.
The memorandum also states that Riddle conceded that multiple documents were not turned over to the defense in 1977, including the report of the medical examiner who examined both of the alleged rape victims; the arrest report,; audio recordings; and the statements of the alleged victims gave to police.
In 2020, relatives of the alleged victims came forward claiming the entire story against Simmons was fabricated by the alleged victims and their cousin to cover a family secret of inappropriate sexual behavior within the family.
“This is a story you might hear when speaking of Jim Crow and the rape myth involving Black men and white women that resulted in so many tragic lynchings and wrongful convictions," said Bonus. On Oct 20, based on the new evidence, Avoyelles Parish District Judge Kerry Spruill ordered an evidentiary hearing for Feb. 17, 2021. The hearing date will mark Vincent’s 69th birthday.

2020.10.28 03:11 TheEmoBear 23 [M4F] Missouri/Illinois/USA Just looking for someone to like me for me

•Who Am I & a little Background
I’m not quite sure where to start with this but I am going to try my best. I haven’t had any luck with in person dating, Tinder, Bumble, ect. and have began to give up hope so figured this post couldn’t hurt.
I’m 23, 5’10 & stocky with a little extra weight but nothing more than the average person with my body configuration. I wear glasses & have brown hair / eyes.
I would describe myself as a funny & sweet guy who is laid back and easy going.
I still live at home with my mother and my cat while going to college for my Bachelors in Sports Management.
I enjoy playing video games, I currently have an Xbox One and getting a Series X day one. I play Call of Duty, Halo, NBA2K, Madden along with other games (looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077!). I also enjoy watching sports as I am a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan & Toronto Raptors fan, I watch every single game I can possibly watch and I would say it makes up a good chunk of my life. I collect basketball cards and have a quite large collection of people I like the most. I like music a lot as well, I would say those 3 things make up who I am more than anything!
I enjoy anything Star Wars, I love the staple Horror movie villains (Jason, Freddy, Michael, Leatherface, Pinhead). I’m into nerdy stuff. I love zombies, I love action figures/collectables, Pokémon. Basically stuff from my childhood I still enjoy very much today.
•What I’m Looking For
Ideally, I would love to find a woman around my age (18-28, but this isn’t a dealbreaker for me) who enjoys the same things as I do to a degree. Someone who is easy going and isn’t as serious as they are laid back and can have a good time.
Preferably live in Missouri or Illinois, closer to STL the better. But will keep the door open to others farther away.
I can’t say I have a definitive mold I’m looking for as I’ve found all types of women attractive & interesting in my life so far.
I’m not afraid of curves, I’m not afraid of you being petite. I’m more interested in personality than being head over heels physically attracted to you (but I will be honest, it does play a part but I am really open to many things)
My messages are open to anyone who would like to chat, I’m not expecting much from this but It would be cool to maybe find someone to spend time with :)

2020.10.27 21:40 Iestwyn Building Governments by using The Dictator's Handbook

The Dictator's Handbook offers a fascinating, simple, and brutally honest way to view politics and political structures. It's an easy-to-read explanation of the authors' selectorate theory; if you'd like an even easier way to learn about it, check out CGP Grey's video, Rules for Rulers. There are some issues with the theory; it relies on the assumption that people are always rational, uses some cherrypicked data, and tries to use one or two ratios as a "theory of everything" to explain all politics. However, the fundamental assumptions and findings are almost certainly accurate.
Most importantly for us, these assumptions can be used to craft a deep and dynamic power structure for our worlds. These don't have to be national governments: this will work for systems of any size (from a country to a town) and nature (from a government to a guild, corporation, or church).
This post will be divided into three parts: first will be an overview of the theory behind the Handbook. Next will be the method for creating governments (and other power structures). Finally will be an example from my campaign setting.

The Theory

Let me start by saying that you don't really need to read this section. If you're interested in the ideas behind selectorate theory, read on; if you'd like a simpler presentation, check CGP Grey's video; and if neither of these are interesting, just skip to the method. I've tried to make it as simple as possible. Also, prepare for a bunch of bullet points; it's just how I think.
The Basics - There are two fundamental assumptions behind selectorate theory:
According to the authors of the Handbook, the characteristics of the coalition explain all the varieties of governments and the actions of their rulers. The two extremes are autocracies and democracies. Autocracies have small, disposable coalitions, allowing the leader to oppress everyone not in the coalition and rule however they want---so long as they keep those few coalition members loyal. Democratic leaders depend on the support of a very large coalition of voters, limiting their actions to those that serve the larger population.
There's a lot of variation in between these two types, but one I'd like to discuss is monarchies (mostly because I'm always interested in medieval society and monarchies are often portrayed inaccurately). In a monarchy as it existed in the Middle Ages, the king or queen is dependent on a very small but irreplaceable coalition of nobles. This actually gives the ruler very little freedom to act or control over their vassals; they would even wage war on each other or with vassals in other "nations" without the monarch's permission. It's only as history moved into the early modern era that kings and queens were able to get more control over their aristocrats by making them less essential, creating genuine "absolute monarchies" that act more like modern autocracies.
The Treasury - Since rewarding key supporters for their loyalty is the most important thing a leader can do, it's valuable to explore how funds are raised and spent.
These dynamics are why, in general, the citizens of autocratic nations live in squalor while those in democracies enjoy relative prosperity. The rulers just don't have to care about commoners in small-coalition regimes.
Transitions of Power - You now know everything you really need to, but there are a couple interesting tidbits to point out. The first deals with transitions of power, whether that's a violent revolution or an incumbent losing a reelection.
Foreign Policy - The last things worth examining are the effects of selectorate theory on foreign policy. Only a few elements are discussed here; they're a little saddening, but they're logical conclusions.
You now have a basic overview of the main findings of the book. Still get it and read it, though; there's way more than I could cover here.

The Method

Now it's time for the technique itself. I'll restate a few things in here, just for the people who decided to skip all the theory.
Before you begin, it'll help if you have at least a basic idea of what you're trying to build. Is it a monarchy? A criminal organization? A guild? A republic? If you'd like some inspiration, check out Wikipedia's list of forms of government. Again, this doesn't have to be a political structure and it doesn't have to be at the national level, but I'll use the word "government" to describe whatever you're making.
Once you've got your idea seed, ask yourself these questions. The first four are the core of the method; the last two add depth and dynamism.
  1. Who's in charge? - Who is at the top of your government? This could be one person, like a king, president, or high priest; a group of people, like the consuls of the Roman Republic or the UK's Parliament; or even multiple bodies, like America's President, Congress, and Supreme Court. If there's a shadow power behind the throne, like a domineering queen or an all-powerful criminal mastermind, think them up, too.
  2. Okay, but who's really in charge? - No one rules alone; leaders can lead because people are holding them up. This coalition of supporters is incredibly important. Ask yourself: who has the power to remove the ruler if they want to? In a democracy, this might be the voters; in a monarchy, this might be the highest level of nobility; in an autocracy, this might be a few powerful family members, military leaders, or bureaucrats. The most important job a leader has is to keep these people on their side by providing them with goods (more on this later), even above serving the people or ruling the world.
    1. Balance of power - If there are more coalition members or they're not easily replaced, they have greater control over what the leader does (like how voters control their leaders). If the coalition is made up of a few disposable people, the leader dictates the terms, like an autocracy. Rulers will always try to reduce the number of people they depend on so they can get more freedom and don't have to work as hard to buy their loyalty. Even if the ruler is in control, that doesn't mean they can do what they want; if the coalition wants, they can allow a revolution to happen to replace the leader and get a better deal.
    2. All the way down - Technically, those coalition members can also rely on a coalition of their own to keep their positions (although if the leader has a lot of power, they also rely on the ruler's benevolence). A king's highest vassals (or tenants-in-chief) still depends on their vassals, and so on and so forth. Many systems feature this kind of relationship; develop them if you think it fits.
  3. Where does the money go? - Money has to be spent buying the coalition's loyalty if the leader wants to survive politically. There are three places money can go, and which ones the ruler prioritizes are dependent on whether the coalition is strong (big and irreplaceable) or weak (small and disposable). Even a weak coalition needs a lot of money, though, so almost everything will go to keeping them happy.
    1. Private goods - Things that can't be shared, like money, government jobs, and opportunities for corruption. It's easier and cheaper to buy off a weak coalition with private goods.
    2. Public goods - Things that can be shared, like infrastructure, educational systems, and basic freedoms. These are expensive, but they're the only things that will keep a strong coalition happy.
    3. Personal goods - Whatever isn't spent on the first two can go to the ruler. If the coalition's weak, the leader gets a lot to stash in an account or spend on pet projects.
  4. Where does the money come from? - There are a few main sources of income, but they can be basically boiled down into two types:
    1. Popular revenue - These sources skim taxes off of the population's work. In order for this to be productive, the citizens need to be at least a little bit productive, so even dictators will have to invest some funds into public goods to keep the money flowing in.
    2. Exploitative revenue - Some sources of revenue don't require many (if any) productive citizens. These include natural resources and funding from other nations. If the ruler has access to any of these, there's no need to waste anything on the people; all the money can go to private and personal goods, leaving everyone else to starve.
  5. Who are the little guys? - You now have a decent skeleton of a government. Now you have the option to fill it in with all the other people that keep everything running. Who collects the taxes? What's the military like? How are the provinces governed? If you want to delve even deeper here, you could also get into more complex relationships between parts of the government, like the checks and balances associated with many modern democracies.
  6. What do the big guys want? - This is another option that will set up some dynamics in your world. The leader and coalition are almost never content to just sit around and enjoy the status quo. They want to get more, and there are a billion ways to go about it. One key thing to keep in mind is that none of the "big guys" will care about anyone else's welfare---whether that's other nations or disenfranchised citizens---unless it's tied to their own. Your government can influence the decisions of other countries through money, diplomacy, or war. If times are getting tough, the coalition may consider replacing the leader through a revolution or reelection in order to improve their condition. For every goal, include an obstacle in order to keep things interesting.
And there we go! A government that comes with tension and organic behavior, ready to be used in your story or game.

My Nation - Mana Sakhami

This section is like the first one: a long-winded ramble that you don't really need to read unless you're interested. To see what kind of results this method can produce, let's look at a nation in my world, Mana Sakhami (political and physical maps here, ignore the Ironholds to the north). Because of its nature, it's really more like three countries in one---perfect for our purposes, since that's three different outputs from these questions. Note that I got very detailed; feel free to be as shallow or deep as you like with your creations.
Mana Sakhami is the result of three separate nations that were once briefly united by a warlord. On his death, they mostly went their own ways, forming the three Counties of Vamir, Doraan, and Khaal. The three Counts form the Onyx Board, a body that decides on national foreign policy and (rarely) sanctions a County for bad behavior. The Board doesn't meet too often; instead, the Counts rule from their relative capitals (the county seats), keeping up to date magically and meeting in Lanariel when needed.
County Vamir is the richest and most well-developed county. The position of the county seat, Cloudshore, at the mouth of the vital Sumalie River makes it the trading hub of the nation. Most of the population lives on the river or coastlines, or at key areas on the border to the southwest, allowing for even more trade opportunities. This has created a large and powerful merchant middle class, which has taken control of the County's government. The largest guilds elect representatives to the Assembly in Cloudshore, which then elects the Count---currently Countess Belonne---to chair the Assembly and represent the County on the Onyx Board. The Count usually serves for life, but can be removed with a two-thirds majority in the Assembly.
County Khaal is the polar opposite of Vamir. Khaal was the premier military power of the area before Mana Sakhami was formed, and the strength of the military elite hasn't waned since the creation of the Board. The Count---currently Countess Alianor---chooses a few Praetors from the ranks of the army to enforce her will across the County. The economy is driven by state-owned iron and mineral mines in and around the mountains to the northeast, funding the military's activities and elites. Most of what's mined is sold across the border to the Ironholds, which is why the county seat of Cotorru is so far removed from the rest of the nation.
County Doraan is the breadbasket of the country. Its position between the Cirrolon and Crystalcourse rivers creates a lot of arable land that is controlled by a feudal aristocracy. The peasants aren't as well-off as in Vamir, but they aren't actively repressed and exploited like in Khaal. The Count---currently Count Rowan---has a fair amount of leeway with his personal activities, but doesn't have much power over the local nobility. The Onyx Board meets in the county seat of Lanariel, historically viewed to be the birthplace of humankind and where the first humans stepped out of the Fanau Sea.
There's currently a powerful controversy that threatens to spill into civil war. Iron and mineral deposits have started to run dry in Khaal, threatening the military's hold over the people---and Alianor's hold over the military. This has merged with a cultural movement idolizing Mana Sakhami's warlike roots to form the Revanchist sect, advocating for renewed expansion and war. Countess Alianor has formally petitioned the Onyx Board to declare war on the relatively peaceful nation on Khaal's eastern border---ostensibly to reclaim man's rightful place in the world, but mostly in search for new mining opportunities.
The Assembly is strongly against the idea of warfare in general---it threatens their trading network and business relationships. Countess Belonne has started the Reformist movement, which advocates abandoning all the mistakes of Mana Sakhami's past, to counter the Revanchists. In addition, she has submitted a counter-petition to the Board demanding that Alianor step down as Countess of Khaal and that non-military citizens be given additional rights in Khaal's government. Beneath the surface, this is just an effort to get someone more trade-friendly in charge of Khaal.
Count Rowan is torn. His nobles are split between the Reformist and Revanchist factions, and Doraan itself has little to gain from either petition. This has created a stalemate in the Onyx Board; neither petition can gain a majority without Rowan's vote. Growing desperate, Alianor has begun raiding across the border without the Board's approval, seeking spoils with which to pay her Praetors and soldiers. This has heightened tensions further, with Reformists crying that Khaal is violating the Board's authority and Revanchists claiming that the Board is deliberately stalling. If an agreement isn't reached soon, war may break out between Khaal's powerful military and Doraan's skilled mercenaries, with Doraan's peasant levies splitting between the two. The nation would be plunged into war.
And that's my country! Vamir, Doraan, and Khaal were inspired by the merchant republics of early modern Italy, the monarchies of medieval Europe, and Imperial Rome respectively. Doraan is the only one that really sticks to those inspirations; the others diverge in several ways.

Hope this was helpful! Please feel free to offer feedback in the comments.

2020.10.27 21:08 classy-cassy Conflicted

I feel like such an ass for venting about this but I feel like I’m dating a man child. He doesn’t work. He doesn’t cook. He doesn’t do his own laundry. He plays games for 8 hours straight and doesn’t shower unless you ask him to. He’s mentioned to me that he has ADHD but doesn’t want to treat it and that he acknowledges his gaming addiction but doesn’t want to get better. How am I supposed to react? I don’t want to push or violate his boundaries, but I am getting really tired of the same old excuses. He’s been studying in undergrad for 9 years and is 27 years old. I’ve tried to educate myself about ADHD and tried talking to his mom about how to care for him, but she doesn’t know and neither do I. I don’t know why it bothers me so much when he lies to his mom that he’s “passing” all of his classes and “putting in work” when he literally Cheggs/Googles all of his assignments and doesn’t do a single shred of “work” until the day it is due or the day before it is due. He is taking 3 courses but manages to turn assignments in late or not turn them in at all. I’ve tried asking him what I can do for him or what he needs to be successful, but he insists that I stay out of his way and let him fail so that he can “learn”. I’m annoyed that I helped write his petition so that he could stay at the university and he hasn’t tried to study or do well in any of his 3 courses this semester. He doesn’t pay attention in class and study for the entire 8 weeks that we had been in school, finally “studied” (watched YouTube videos for Super Smash Bro’s and League of Legends while reviewing his course notes) for 2 weeks and thinks that he worked so hard. He gets a 70% on the exam. I believe that he is trying his hardest but it’s probably hard for me to understand because I haven’t really had much experience with ADHD.
Overall, I shouldn’t have helped write his petition to stay at the university but I felt bad and felt that I could help him give school another shot one last time. Idk why it annoys me so much when he says that he wants to be a manager at McDonalds after he graduates college because getting a job as an engineer would be hard. Yeah, no shit if you’re playing games all day and not actually trying to do anything engineering related. I’m sure working at McDs is okay while trying to look for a job but this guy is not one to take initiative. His mom is afraid to stop supporting him financially because she’s afraid he’ll become homeless. Honestly, this guy has never done anything on his own and I hope someday he figures out how to before his mom passes away. I feel like such an asshole all the time asking him to help me clean, help me with laundry, do his homework (because it’s due the next day), and to clean up his side of the room. He tells me that he doesn’t want to take his prescribed medication because he doesn’t want to become dependent on it. I rudely asked him how that was any different than depending on his mom to pay all of his living expenses, his gaming addiction, depending on google/chegg to give him answers every assignment. I also asked him why it was okay to take shrooms, PCP, and ecstasy whenever he wants to “get high” but not okay for him to take adderall as prescribed. He didn’t have an excuse or answer.
I wonder if taking his medication and therapy would help improve the situation and help him perform better in school. At this point, I feel like I’ve tried so hard to help him get his life together but he just doesn’t try. I think it’s because he knows that his mom will always support him (in every way) which is fine but I can’t keep caring for someone who doesn’t give a damn about himself and others. Then again, can I really blame him for how he is?
